Chapter 8 - The Bait

Cameron stared at the numbers, realizing Marcus was not just a greedy executive.

He was funding a global syndicate, and the experimental patents were the final piece of his weaponization project.

With this evidence, Cameron could completely destroy Marcus and secure his company's future.

However, he could not go to the authorities until he could guarantee Elena's absolute safety at the hospital.

He instructed Miller to drive them to an abandoned shipping yard owned by one of his shell companies.

The desolate yard was filled with towering metal containers, offering perfect cover from the heavy rain.

Cameron knew he had to draw Marcus out of the public eye and away from the protection of his board members.

He borrowed Miller’s untraceable burner phone and dialed his own corporate office.

Marcus answered on the first ring, his voice dripping with arrogant satisfaction.

Cameron told Marcus that he had the flash drive and the list of offshore bank accounts.

He offered to trade the evidence for Elena’s life and a safe passage out of the country.

Marcus chuckled, agreeing to meet Cameron alone at the shipping yard in exactly one hour.

Cameron ended the call and began setting up a perimeter with Miller.

He placed Hope inside a heavily armored security vehicle, locking the doors and instructing her to stay hidden.

The heavy rain continued to pour, washing away the silence of the empty yard.

Exactly an hour later, a convoy of black SUVs rolled into the shipyard, their headlights cutting through the darkness.

Marcus stepped out of the lead vehicle, but he was not alone.

He dragged a heavily bandaged, barely conscious Elena out of the car with a gun pressed directly to her head.
