Chapter 17 - The Impossible Choice

The revelation hit Cameron like a physical blow to the chest. His entire life, his pristine corporate image, and his family’s philanthropic legacy were all built on a foundation of blood and theft. The billionaire philanthropist was nothing more than the son of a cartel thief.
Silas watched the devastation wash over Cameron’s face and laughed softly. He placed the remote detonator on the metal console next to the keyboard. Silas offered Cameron a simple, brutal choice. He could lower his weapon, walk away from the company, and disappear into the night with the little girl, Hope. In exchange, Silas would spare Miller’s life and take full control of the military patents, using the corporate infrastructure to manufacture weapons for the black market. If Cameron refused, Miller would die, Hope would disappear forever, and Silas would have his men hunt Cameron down like a dog.
Cameron stared at the detonator. His mind raced through a million different scenarios, but the brutal reality of the situation offered no clever escapes. He looked at Silas, a man who represented the dark, rotting core of everything Cameron despised. If he let Silas walk away with the patents, thousands of innocent people around the world would die from the biological weapons they produced. But if he stopped him, Miller and a six-year-old girl would pay the ultimate price.
Suddenly, a violent burst of static erupted over the sub-basement intercom system. Miller’s voice cut through the noise, strained and ragged, punctuated by the sound of heavy breathing.

Miller ordered Cameron not to take the deal. The security chief confessed that he had always known where the company's original money came from. He had promised Cameron’s father that he would protect the boy from the sins of the past, no matter the cost. Miller yelled that he had managed to break free from his zip-ties and had rigged the secondary power grid to overload.
Before Silas could react to the voice on the intercom, Miller shouted a final, desperate command to Cameron. He told him to burn it all down and save the girl. A massive, deafening explosion rocked the ceiling above them, shaking dust and debris from the concrete rafters as Miller detonated his own floor.
