Chapter 6 - The Chase

Cameron did not hesitate for a single second.
He shoved Hope into Miller’s arms and sprinted down the hallway toward the fleeing man.
The fake doctor slammed the heavy fire door shut, but Cameron kicked it open with a massive surge of adrenaline.
He chased the man down three flights of concrete stairs, his expensive dress shoes echoing loudly against the walls.
Cameron finally tackled the assassin on the second-floor landing, sending them both crashing into the metal railing.
The man threw a vicious punch, but Cameron dodged it and pinned him firmly to the ground.
He grabbed the man by the collar, demanding to know who sent him to finish the job.
The assassin just laughed, a cruel and hollow sound that echoed in the stairwell.
He spat blood onto the concrete and told Cameron that he was already too late.
The police sirens wailing outside the hospital suddenly grew deafeningly loud.
Cameron looked out the small stairwell window and saw dozens of squad cars swarming the building’s perimeter.
He realized the assassin wasn't just sent to kill Elena; he was sent to stall Cameron until the authorities arrived.
Cameron let go of the man and sprinted back up the stairs, his lungs burning with exertion.
He burst back onto the VIP floor, finding Miller and Hope waiting nervously by the elevators.
Miller reported that Elena had been stabilized, but the police were currently locking down the lobby.

Cameron knew they were trapped in a building completely surrounded by armed officers looking for him.
He looked at Miller and ordered him to trigger the hospital’s fire suppression system.
