Chapter 1 - The Ride To Mercy

Cameron guided the little girl into the back of his waiting black SUV.
His driver looked at him through the rearview mirror with absolute confusion.
Cameron ignored the unspoken questions and ordered him to follow the ambulance.
Hope sat stiffly on the expansive leather seat.
Her small hands gripped her bright red dress so tightly her knuckles turned white.
Cameron’s phone buzzed aggressively in the cup holder.
It was his Chief Operating Officer calling to demand answers about the missed Tokyo flight.
Cameron pressed the mute button without breaking eye contact with the trembling child.
He assured Hope that the doctors at Mercy General were the best in the city.
She offered him a weak nod, but her eyes remained fixed on the flashing red lights ahead of them.
The drive felt agonizingly long despite the driver breaking several traffic laws.
When they finally arrived at the emergency bay, paramedics were already rushing the stretcher through the double doors.
Cameron carried Hope into the waiting room, using his body to shield her from the chaos of the trauma center.
He handed a black card to the receptionist and demanded they put the woman in the VIP wing immediately.
Thirty minutes passed in agonizing silence before an exhausted doctor finally walked through the swinging doors.
Cameron stood up, holding Hope’s hand tightly in his own.
The doctor looked at Cameron with a deeply unsettled expression.
He explained that the woman’s sudden collapse was not caused by exhaustion or a medical condition.

The doctor lowered his voice to a whisper, ensuring the little girl could not hear.
He revealed that someone had injected her with a highly lethal, military-grade nerve toxin.
