Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

Victor watched the video twice, his face hardening back into a mask of pure violence.

"I have to go," he said, checking the ammunition in his pistol.

"He'll kill you both," Harper pleaded, grabbing his arm.

"I don't leave my people behind," Victor replied, his tone leaving no room for argument.

He walked out of the maintenance room, locking the heavy door from the outside.

"Stay here and stay quiet," he ordered through the metal grate.

Victor emerged from the subway and walked alone to the Brooklyn docks.

Declan was waiting in a massive warehouse, surrounded by a dozen armed guards.

Arthur was tied to a chair in the center of the room, battered but alive.

"Toss the gun, Victor," Declan commanded with a cruel smile.

Victor dropped his weapon onto the concrete floor and kicked it away.

"Let him go, Declan."

Declan threw his head back and laughed.

"You think you're in a position to negotiate?"

A side door opened, and two guards dragged a struggling woman into the light.

Victor's heart stopped.

It was Harper, bound and gagged, captured before he even reached the docks.
