Chapter 18 - Double Cross

The moment Harper's finger hit the screen, a piercing alarm echoed from Mateo’s satellite phone.

Mateo frowned, picking up the device to read a frantic message from his port masters in New York.

"What did you do?" Mateo snarled, his confident demeanor vanishing instantly.

"Every shipping crane, every digital lock, every freight manifest you just bought is now wiped," Harper said, her voice perfectly steady.

"You just inherited a graveyard."

Mateo roared in anger, drawing his gold-plated pistol and aiming it directly at Harper.

Victor reacted with inhuman speed.

He kicked the heavy mahogany table upward, flipping it over just as Mateo fired.

The bullet buried itself in the thick wood as chaos erupted in the mansion.

Arthur and Victor's men immediately opened fire, taking out the Cartel snipers in the gallery above.

Victor pulled one of his ceramic blades and threw it across the room.

The knife buried itself in the shoulder of a guard rushing toward Harper.

"Get to the server room down the hall!" Victor yelled over the deafening gunfire.

"I have to hold the lockdown sequence for three more minutes to make the firewall permanent!" Harper yelled back.

Victor grabbed an assault rifle from a fallen guard and provided covering fire.

They moved as a synchronized unit, clearing the hallway and kicking open the heavy doors to the estate's security hub.

Harper instantly hooked her tablet into the mainframe, her fingers flying across the glass screen.

"They are coming, Victor," Arthur warned, reloading his weapon as heavy footsteps echoed down the marble hall.
