Chapter 5 - Out of Time

"We have to go to the roof," Victor ordered, grabbing Harper's hand.

They sprinted to the stairwell just as the heavy boots of a tactical team breached the lobby.

Harper’s lungs burned as they climbed twenty flights of stairs in total darkness.

They burst onto the roof into a torrential downpour.

"Jump to the fire escape on the next building," Victor yelled over the storm.

Harper didn't hesitate, leaping across the terrifying gap between the high-rises.

Victor followed, landing smoothly beside her as bullets began chipping the brick wall above them.

They scrambled down the rusted iron stairs, dropping into a narrow alley.

Arthur was waiting at the mouth of the alley in a black sports car with the engine roaring.

Victor shoved Harper into the backseat and dove in behind her.

Arthur slammed the gas pedal, tearing into the wet city streets.

For ten minutes, they weaved through traffic, seemingly losing their pursuers.

Harper let out a long breath, finally clutching the flash drive to her chest.

"We made it," she whispered.
