Chapter 11 - The Cartel's Shadow

Victor's blood ran cold at the voice on the other end of the line.
He did not let his expression change, keeping his eyes fixed on the city lights outside his penthouse window.
"The debt died with Declan Reeve," Victor stated evenly, his grip tightening on the encrypted phone.
"Debt never dies, Victor, it merely changes hands," the raspy voice replied with a chilling calm.
"We bought the markers before Declan's ashes even cooled."
The line went dead, leaving a heavy, suffocating silence in the room.
Victor slowly turned around to find Harper standing in the doorway, the warm smile she had worn earlier now completely gone.
She had heard enough of his side of the conversation to know the nightmare was not over.
"Who was it?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"The Sinaloa Cartel," Victor answered, walking over to his desk to pull a hidden emergency firearm from the drawer.
Harper slumped against the doorframe, the color draining from her face.
"My father," she whispered, a mix of anger and sheer terror washing over her.
Victor stepped close to her, placing his hands firmly on her shoulders to ground her.
"I am going to find him before they do, Harper."
Arthur walked into the office a moment later, instantly reading the tension in the room.
"Sir?" Arthur asked, his hand instinctively dropping to his sidearm.

"Pack the bags and fuel the jet," Victor ordered, his eyes never leaving Harper's.
"We are going to Las Vegas tonight."
