Chapter 4 - The Betrayal

Harper dropped the whiskey glass, letting it shatter on the marble floor.
"My manager?" she gasped, trying to process the betrayal.
"Every late-night project he gave you was a cover to launder Declan's money," Victor explained.
He walked to a safe hidden behind a painting and began loading spare magazines.
"I need my hard drive from the office," Harper insisted, stepping forward.
"It has the original files, the proof that I was manipulated."
"Absolutely not," Victor refused without looking at her.
"If I don't get it, Declan will frame me for the fraud, and I'll go to federal prison."
Victor looked into her desperate, determined eyes and finally nodded.
They moved quickly, taking a heavily armored SUV back to the agency.
The fourteenth floor was empty and eerily silent as Harper booted up her computer.
She copied the encrypted files onto a flash drive, her hands shaking.
Suddenly, red and blue lights illuminated the office windows.
Police sirens wailed, surrounding the entire building from the street below.

Arthur's voice crackled through Victor's earpiece.
"Boss, it's a trap, the cops are dirty, and they have shoot-to-kill orders."
