Chapter 20 - The Reign of the Free

Six completely peaceful, wonderful months later, the incredibly warm tropical sun beat down softly on my face.
I was sitting comfortably on the pristine, white-sand beach of a highly remote, completely untraceable Caribbean island.
The gentle, rhythmic sound of the crystal-clear ocean waves was absolute, perfect music to my highly recovering ears.
Lily was laughing joyfully in the shallow water, splashing playfully with a friendly local golden retriever that had adopted us the day we arrived.
Vanessa walked casually out of our beautiful, heavily fortified beachfront villa, carrying a tray of ice-cold, colorful drinks.
She was wearing a massive, floppy straw hat and oversized designer sunglasses, fully embracing our brand-new, completely anonymous retirement.
She sat down gracefully on the comfortable lounge chair next to mine, handing me a sweating glass of fresh fruit juice.
"The global news networks are still aggressively talking about the mysterious total collapse of the European banking cartels," Vanessa mentioned with a highly satisfied smirk.
"Alexander died in federal custody last week; his incredibly rare illness finally caught up to his massive ego."
I took a slow, refreshing sip of my drink, feeling a profound, undeniable sense of absolute closure finally settle into my bones.
The terrifying shadow of Julian, the deadly manipulations of the Obsidian Circle, and the blood-soaked legacy of my biological father were permanently erased from our lives.
We had completely drained the remaining safe, untraceable funds from my original trust, using the incredible wealth to quietly purchase this private island under highly complex, fictional corporate names.
We were no longer hunted targets, we were no longer desperate victims, and we were absolutely no longer pawns in a psychotic billionaire's deadly chess game.
I looked out at the massive, endless horizon, watching a beautiful sailboat glide smoothly across the deep blue water.
I had been brutally forged in underground fighting rings, completely betrayed by the man I married, and aggressively tested by the deadliest crime lord in human history.
But I had fiercely protected the only family that actually mattered, completely burning a massive global syndicate to ashes to ensure our ultimate survival.

I placed my cold drink on the wooden table and smiled warmly at my beautiful sister playing happily in the surf.
The terrifying, violent war was officially, permanently over, and we were finally, truly, and absolutely free.
