Chapter 17 - The Drowning Cell

I violently scrambled away from the massive crater Julian had just punched into the solid stone floor.

My ribs screamed in absolute, blinding agony, but the heavy, desperate splashing coming from Lily's glass tank fueled my fading adrenaline.

The freezing water inside her reinforced prison was now completely covering her chin, forcing her to tilt her head aggressively backward to catch a single breath.

Julian charged at me again like a completely enraged, unstoppable cybernetic bull.

I knew perfectly well that I could not match his drug-fueled, mechanical strength in a direct, physical confrontation.

I aggressively dodged his wild, sweeping knife attack, smoothly sliding on the wet, mossy floor directly between his legs.

I aggressively kicked the back of his organic knee with all my remaining strength, forcing him to momentarily buckle.

As he stumbled forward, I grabbed a heavy, rusted iron chain hanging loosely from the ancient catacomb wall.

I whipped the heavy chain violently around his thick neck, pulling backward with absolutely everything I had.

Julian roared in furious anger, desperately clawing at the thick iron links choking the life entirely out of him.

He violently swung his heavy titanium elbow backward, connecting brutally with my jaw and sending me flying into the shallow, muddy water.

My vision completely blurred into dark, overlapping shadows, the loud ringing in my ears drowning out Lily's desperate, muffled screams.

Julian tore the heavy chain from his neck, violently gasping for air as he stormed toward my fallen body.

He aggressively pinned me to the flooded floor with his heavy boot, raising his serrated combat knife high above his head for the final, lethal strike.

Suddenly, a loud, deafening gunshot echoed violently through the massive underground chamber.

Julian’s right shoulder exploded in a massive spray of dark crimson blood, the incredibly powerful sniper round completely tearing his organic arm apart.

Vanessa had finally navigated the dark catacombs, setting up her heavy sniper rifle on a high stone archway overlooking the flooded arena.

Julian screamed in sheer, unadulterated shock, completely dropping his deadly serrated knife into the muddy water.

I did not waste a single, fleeting second of the sudden, massive advantage.

I violently grabbed the dropped combat knife from the muddy water and drove it aggressively upward with both hands.

The sharp, heavy blade bypassed his ceramic armor completely, burying itself deeply into the unprotected gap under his jawline.

Julian’s incredibly wild eyes went entirely wide in absolute, horrifying realization as his drug-fueled strength completely failed him.

He collapsed heavily onto the flooded stone floor, his dark blood violently mixing with the cold Venetian water, permanently ending his psychotic reign of terror.
