Chapter 9 - The Truth Revealed

I stared directly down the deadly barrel of my father's gun, completely frozen by pure, overwhelming terror.
Before he could even pull the heavy trigger, Lucian threw his entire body violently in front of me.
A single, deafening gunshot echoed sharply across the chaotic lawn.
Lucian gasped loudly, his massive frame violently jerking backward as the heavy bullet struck his chest.
He collapsed heavily onto the cold driveway, clutching the massive, bleeding wound with a trembling hand.
"Lucian!" I screamed, dropping instantly to my knees beside the only man I had ever truly loved.
The federal tactical agents immediately opened fire, completely neutralizing my father with a precise barrage of non-lethal rounds.
Don Carlo fell violently to the ground, and dozens of agents swarmed the porch to secure him in heavy iron chains.
I completely ignored the absolute chaos surrounding us, pressing my hands desperately against Lucian's bleeding chest.
"Stay with me, please do not leave me now," I begged, hot tears streaming uncontrollably down my dirty face.
Lucian smiled weakly, reaching up with a bloody hand to gently touch my cheek.
"I promised I would get you entirely out of this life, Serena," he whispered, coughing violently as he struggled to breathe.
A tall man wearing a dark FBI windbreaker rushed over to us, immediately calling for a heavy trauma medic.
The lead federal agent knelt down beside Lucian with an expression of profound, genuine respect.
"You did an incredible job, Mr. Moretti, we have officially secured enough evidence to dismantle both crime families completely," the agent announced.
I looked at the federal agent in absolute, complete bewilderment.
"Lucian has been working as a highly classified federal informant for the past six months," the agent explained to me.
The devastating truth finally washed entirely over me like a warm, comforting wave of absolute clarity.
Lucian had completely sacrificed his criminal empire, his brutal reputation, and his own physical safety just to secure our freedom.
The paramedics arrived seconds later, rapidly loading my bleeding husband onto a heavy emergency stretcher.
Elena carefully handed me my crying son, wrapping her arm securely around my trembling shoulders.
"He is going to survive, Serena, because he is way too stubborn to die now," Elena promised me fiercely.
