Chapter 3 - The Mistress's Secret

I froze completely in the doorway, my protective instincts screaming as I stared at the woman who had ruined my marriage.
Bianca casually placed her wine glass on the wooden coffee table, completely unfazed by our sudden arrival.
"You really thought you could hide from the most powerful crime syndicate in the country in a rotting wooden cabin?" Bianca laughed mockingly.
Elena immediately stepped in front of me, pulling a small silver handgun from her wet jacket pocket.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't blow your head off right now," Elena threatened fiercely.
Bianca did not even flinch at the sight of the lethal weapon pointed directly at her face.
"Because if you kill me, you will never find out the absolute truth about your precious husband," Bianca replied smoothly.
She leaned forward, her dark eyes locking onto mine with an intense, calculating gaze.
"Lucian did not sleep with me for pleasure, Serena, he arranged a secret marriage with me to merge the Chicago and New York families."
My breath hitched in my throat as the devastating weight of her words crashed down upon me.
"He promised my father that he would dispose of you entirely and raise that baby as a true Romano heir," she lied flawlessly.
I shook my head, desperately refusing to believe that the man I once loved could be capable of such monstrous cruelty.
"I hate Lucian just as much as you do, and I want to help you disappear so I can break the arranged merger," Bianca claimed.
She stood up slowly, offering me a thick stack of forged passports and untraceable cash.
Before I could even process her sudden offer, the heavy front door exploded violently off its hinges.
Four massive men wearing dark tactical masks stormed into the small cabin with their assault rifles raised.
Bianca screamed in fake terror, shoving me violently toward the back door of the kitchen.
"Run into the woods right now, they are here to take the baby!" Bianca yelled frantically.
I sprinted blindly out the back door, clutching my crying son tightly as the freezing rain lashed against my face.
I heard Elena firing her weapon behind me, followed by the sickening sound of a heavy struggle.

I turned my head for one brief, desperate second to look for my sister.
In that exact moment, a pair of massive hands emerged from the dark trees and violently ripped my baby from my arms.
