Chapter 16 - The Counterstrike

The blinding blue electrical flash instantly plunged the entire command center into absolute, terrifying darkness.

I had successfully triggered a massive, highly localized electromagnetic pulse device my father had originally installed in the panic room to completely wipe the servers in an emergency.

The EMP entirely destroyed all digital electronics within the bunker, completely neutralizing Julian's detonator and successfully wiping the offshore transfer before it could finalize.

"What exactly did you do?!" Julian roared furiously in the dark, his entire, flawlessly executed plan completely collapsing in a matter of seconds.

Lucian did not waste a single millisecond of the chaotic, unexpected advantage I had brilliantly provided.

He lunged fiercely across the metal table in absolute darkness, using his devastating, superior size and brutal combat instincts to aggressively tackle his younger brother.

A massive, incredibly violent hand-to-hand deathmatch instantly erupted in the pitch-black command center.

I could hear the sickening sound of heavy fists connecting violently with bone and the chaotic shattering of expensive tactical equipment.

I aggressively unsealed the heavy titanium door of the panic room, entirely refusing to cower in the dark while my husband fought a brutal battle for our lives.

I grabbed a heavy, solid steel crowbar from the emergency maintenance kit and sprinted desperately up the metal stairwell.

I burst into the command center, completely unable to distinguish the two massive silhouettes violently grappling on the concrete floor in the dark.

Julian had aggressively managed to draw a hidden, serrated combat knife, wildly slashing a deep, bloody gash across Lucian's broad shoulder.

Lucian grunted in pain but fiercely managed to disarm the lethal blade, violently twisting Julian's arm completely backward until the bone snapped loudly.

Julian screamed in agonizing pain, but he ruthlessly kicked Lucian’s injured knee, forcing the older brother heavily to the ground.

Julian aggressively scrambled to his feet, blindly searching the dark floor for the loaded handgun Lucian had dropped moments ago.

His hand closed firmly around the heavy metal grip, and he raised the weapon, preparing to execute Lucian completely in the dark.

I did not hesitate or panic for a single, fleeting second.

I swung the heavy steel crowbar with absolutely every ounce of desperate, protective strength I possessed, striking Julian squarely across the back of his knee.

Julian let out a pathetic, high-pitched yelp as his leg completely buckled beneath him, dropping him violently onto the hard concrete.

Lucian instantly capitalized on the strike, aggressively launching his massive body forward and delivering a devastating, knockout blow directly to Julian's jaw.

Julian’s head snapped violently backward, and he collapsed entirely into deep, unmoving unconsciousness on the ruined floor.

The heavy silence that followed was broken only by Lucian’s ragged, exhausted breathing as he slowly stood up in the dark.

"You saved my life again, Serena," Lucian gasped, wrapping his strong, bleeding arms securely around me.

May you like

"I promised I would absolutely never leave you, Lucian," I replied fiercely, burying my face in his chest.

We had successfully defeated the immediate, terrifying threat, but we were still completely trapped in a dark, powerless bunker with an active federal warrant on our heads.
