Chapter 8 - The Public Humiliation

Thomas sprinted desperately down the center aisle, dragging my struggling stepmother by the wrist.
"That is our brilliant daughter!" Thomas yelled to the crowd, waving his arms frantically to get the camera's attention.
He saw the billionaire investors sitting in the VIP front row, and his blinding greed took over entirely.
He bounded up the stage stairs, flashing a sickeningly fake smile for the dozens of flashing cameras.
He walked directly toward me with his arms wide open, aiming for a picture-perfect family hug.
"We are so incredibly proud of you, sweetheart," he loudly declared into the microphone's pickup range.
He leaned in close, his voice immediately dropping to a vicious, venomous whisper only I could hear.
"Play along and introduce me to those rich investors, or I will ruin your career tomorrow," he hissed.
I didn't back away, I didn't tremble, and I certainly didn't smile for his photo op.
I reached out with a steady hand and pulled the microphone straight from the metal stand.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I need to make a severe correction," I said clearly and loudly.
The massive auditorium went completely still, thousands of people sensing the sudden, heavy tension on stage.
"This man is not here to support me, nor has he ever supported my medical journey," I announced, my voice ringing with absolute certainty.
"This is the man who stole my VIP ticket last night and violently dragged me into the freezing rain."
The crowd gasped in collective, horrified shock, the sound echoing off the high ceilings.
The billionaire investors in the front row stood up, looking utterly furious at the man on stage.
Thomas turned pale, desperately reaching out to grab the microphone from my hand.
"She is just overwhelmed by the stress of the day!" he lied to the crowd, sweating profusely under the lights.
I stepped out of his reach and looked directly at the Head of Security standing in the wings.
"These people have abused me for the very last time," I stated firmly and unapologetically.

"Please remove these dangerous trespassers from my stage immediately."
Four massive security guards rushed the platform before Thomas could even take another step toward me.
