Chapter 16 - The Corporate Viper

The fallout from the hijacked live stream was immediate and absolutely catastrophic for my abusers. Haley's sponsors dropped her within minutes, completely terminating her lucrative contracts and demanding immediate refunds. She was entirely ruined, locked in her room, hiding from the massive hordes of investigative journalists swarming her lawn.
But Evelyn was far more dangerous than her vain, foolish daughter. Evelyn didn't hide. Like a cornered, venomous viper, she decided to strike directly at the source of her imminent destruction.
Late that evening, I was alone in my new, state-of-the-art clinic, organizing the incredibly advanced medical equipment I had purchased with the grant money. The heavy glass front doors suddenly shattered inward, and Evelyn marched into the lobby, flanked by three highly armed Apex corporate security contractors.
She looked entirely unhinged. Her expensive designer suit was wrinkled, and her eyes were wild with desperate, murderous intent.
"You think you are so brilliant, Clara?" Evelyn sneered, pointing a trembling finger at my face. "You think a leaked phone call is going to stop a billion-dollar pharmaceutical syndicate? They own the judges. They own the police. You are going to sign the patent for your surgical device over to Apex right now, or my men will ensure you suffer a tragic, fatal accident right here on this floor."
I stood perfectly still behind the heavy marble reception desk, my face completely devoid of fear. I slowly crossed my arms and looked at the armed men surrounding her.
"You are incredibly predictable, Evelyn," I replied smoothly, my voice echoing calmly in the tense room. "Did you really think a woman who outsmarted a federal security grid to get into her own graduation would leave her new clinic unprotected?"
Evelyn laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "You don't have any security guards, Clara. We watched the building for hours. You are completely alone."
"I don't need guards," I stated coldly. I reached under the desk and pressed a heavy red button.
Instantly, the clinic was flooded with blinding, high-intensity surgical lights. Massive digital screens dropped from the ceiling, displaying a live, real-time feed of Evelyn and her armed men.

"Evelyn, say hello to the regional director of the FBI, the head of the National Medical Board, and the local SWAT commander," I announced loudly. "This entire building is rigged with closed-circuit cameras broadcasting directly to federal servers. They just heard every single word of your extortion attempt and your murder threat."
Evelyn’s face turned the color of dead ash.
