Chapter 7 - The Wreckage

The massive impact was entirely deafening.

White airbags exploded violently throughout the entire cabin.

Shattered safety glass rained down heavily on my face and shoulders.

The truck spun aggressively sideways and slammed into a thick concrete pillar.

Everything suddenly went completely still and silent.

My ears were ringing loudly from the crash.

I tasted warm metallic blood in my mouth.

I blinked away the heavy dizziness and rapidly checked my surroundings.

Vanessa was groaning in intense pain next to me in the back seat.

She had a bleeding cut on her forehead, but she was definitely alive.

I kicked my jammed door open and stumbled out onto the dark highway.

I rushed frantically to the front passenger side.

The metal door was completely crushed inward.

I used all my physical strength to pry the twisted metal open.

Grace was slumped forward heavily against the deployed white airbag.

I gently pulled her out of the wrecked vehicle into the cool air.

She groaned softly in my arms.

The violent crash had actually woken her up.

Her beautiful green eyes fluttered open very slowly.

She looked up at me and whispered my name weakly.

I hugged her tightly against my chest.

I passionately told her she was finally safe.

Suddenly, I heard the undeniable crunch of heavy boots on broken glass behind me.

I spun around quickly.

David had crawled out of the destroyed driver's side.

His face was completely covered in dark blood.

His left arm hung at a terrifying, unnatural angle.

He was holding the heavy submachine gun with his one good hand.

He aimed it directly at Grace's head.

He spat a large mouthful of blood onto the paved highway.

He told me I was going to deeply regret doing that.

I stepped completely in front of Grace to shield her body.

I prepared to rush him with everything I had left.

I knew I would probably get shot, but I absolutely had to protect my wife.

Before David could even pull the trigger, a pair of blinding headlights illuminated the dark highway.

A massive black armored SUV aggressively swerved perfectly in front of us.

It slammed on its heavy brakes, completely blocking David's line of sight.

Four dangerous men in dark tactical gear jumped out of the SUV.

They immediately raised assault rifles and aimed them directly at David.

A sharply dressed man stepped out of the back seat of the SUV.

He was wearing an incredibly expensive tailored suit.

He walked calmly and confidently into the bright glare of the headlights.

It was Marcus.

The politician from the fake ransom video was standing right in front of me again.

He smiled warmly at me like we were old friends.

May you like

He slowly lowered his designer sunglasses.

He told me he had been eagerly looking forward to meeting me in person.
