Chapter 16 - The Helipad

I ran aggressively toward the floor-to-ceiling glass window and looked out into the violent storm.

The massive, open-air helipad was being battered by heavy rain and terrifying ocean winds.

A sleek, heavily armored black helicopter was sitting on the pad, its rotors already spinning rapidly.

My father was standing on the metal grate of the helipad, wearing a thick black trench coat.

He was surrounded by four towering, elite personal bodyguards holding heavy assault rifles.

He turned and looked directly at the window, offering me a mocking, deeply arrogant salute.

I completely shattered the thick glass window with a continuous burst of heavy gunfire.

The freezing wind and rain violently whipped into the command center as I leaped through the broken frame.

I landed hard on the slick metal helipad, completely ignoring the intense pain shooting up my legs.

My squad poured out of the broken window right behind me, immediately laying down a massive wall of covering fire.

My father’s elite bodyguards returned fire aggressively, trying desperately to push us back into the burning rig.

Jax took a heavy bullet directly to his shoulder, spinning violently and collapsing onto the wet metal grate.

I screamed his name, dragging his heavy body securely behind a stack of metal fuel barrels for cover.

Jax gritted his teeth in agony but fiercely ordered me to keep moving forward.

I popped out from cover, lining up my sights perfectly on the lead bodyguard's chest.

I pulled the trigger twice, dropping him instantly to the deck.

My remaining operators relentlessly advanced, overwhelming the other three guards with sheer, overwhelming firepower.

My father realized his final line of defense had entirely fallen.

He turned his back on me and sprinted frantically toward the open door of the waiting helicopter.

I dropped my empty rifle onto the deck and drew my heavy tactical pistol.

I sprinted across the wet metal, entirely ignoring the chaotic crossfire happening around me.

The helicopter pilot saw me charging and frantically tried to lift off into the violent storm.

The skids of the chopper slowly lifted exactly three feet off the metal grate.

I launched my entire body aggressively forward, completely clearing the gap.

I tackled my father violently from behind, right as he was trying to climb into the cabin.

We both tumbled backward out of the rising helicopter.

We crashed brutally onto the hard metal deck, sliding dangerously close to the terrifying edge of the oil rig.

The helicopter pilot did not wait around.

He pitched the chopper wildly into the storm and disappeared entirely into the dark clouds.

I stood up slowly, the freezing rain pounding heavily against my face.

My father lay on the metal grate, completely unarmed and entirely alone.
