Chapter 6 - The Driveway

David kept the deadly weapon leveled precisely at my heart.

The raging fire from the mansion cast a terrifying orange glow across his face.

He tossed a pair of heavy plastic zip-ties onto the concrete driveway.

He aggressively ordered Vanessa to bind my hands behind my back.

Vanessa was trembling violently as she picked up the plastic ties.

She looked at me with pure, unfiltered terror in her wide eyes.

I gave her a very subtle, reassuring nod.

I needed David to firmly believe he was in complete control of the situation.

Vanessa weakly secured my wrists behind my back.

She purposely left the zip-ties just loose enough for me to break them later.

David smirked with arrogant satisfaction.

He ordered Vanessa to climb into the back of my truck.

He walked over and pressed the cold steel barrel of the gun against my neck.

He commanded me to get into the driver's seat immediately.

I asked him how exactly he expected me to drive with my hands tied.

David laughed a dark, menacing laugh.

He said I was not going to drive tonight.

He shoved me forcefully into the back seat right next to Vanessa.

David confidently climbed into the driver's seat.

He started the powerful engine and threw the heavy truck into gear.

We sped rapidly away from the burning mansion.

Loud sirens echoed faintly in the distance.

The fire department was finally arriving at the scene.

I looked over at Grace in the front passenger seat.

She had not moved or made a single sound.

Her breathing was still dangerously shallow.

I glared violently at the back of David's head.

I asked him where he was taking us.

David casually adjusted the rearview mirror to look at me.

He said we were going to a private, abandoned airfield outside the city limits.

He had an untraceable jet waiting on the runway.

Once I used my fingerprint to transfer the remaining funds, he was permanently leaving the country.

I asked him what would happen to my family after the transfer.

David did not answer the question.

The heavy silence was significantly worse than any verbal threat.

I instantly knew he planned to kill us all and dump our bodies in the ocean.

I slowly twisted my wrists to test the plastic ties.

The thick plastic stretched under the immense pressure.

I flexed my arm muscles and snapped the zip-ties completely in half.

I kept my freed hands carefully hidden behind my back.

I patiently waited for the perfect moment to strike.

David recklessly merged onto a dark, completely deserted stretch of the highway.

He reached over casually to adjust the radio dial.

That was my perfect chance.

I lunged forward viciously from the back seat.

I wrapped my strong hands tightly around David's throat.

David choked wildly and desperately stomped his foot on the brakes.

May you like

The heavy truck violently swerved out of control.

We crashed directly into the steel guardrail at sixty miles per hour.
