Chapter 18 - The Collapse

My father stared at me with pure, unadulterated terror in his wide eyes.
The realization that he had completely lost everything finally crashed down upon him.
He desperately started begging for his miserable life.
He offered me billions of dollars in untraceable cryptocurrency.
He promised to disappear into the shadows and never contact my family again.
I looked at the pathetic monster who had orchestrated the kidnapping of my wife and the theft of my daughter.
I felt absolutely no remorse, no hesitation, and no familial bond whatsoever.
I aggressively shoved him backward.
He stumbled violently over the slick metal grate and crashed heavily into the outer guardrail.
The rusted metal railing groaned loudly under his weight.
He looked over his shoulder at the terrifying, hundred-foot drop into the churning, freezing black ocean below.
I slowly backed away, keeping my thumb perfectly still on the explosive detonator button.
I told him I was not going to shoot him, because he simply was not worth the bullet.
I turned my back on him and walked quickly toward my surviving squad members.
Jax was sitting up against the fuel barrels, a temporary field dressing wrapped tightly around his bleeding shoulder.
I ordered the team to immediately fall back to the supply freighter we had hijacked earlier.
We moved rapidly across the metal helipad, leaving my father screaming desperately behind us in the storm.
We navigated back down the stairwells, entirely unopposed since the remaining mercenaries had already fled the doomed rig.
We crossed the heavy metal loading ramps and boarded the massive supply freighter.
I ordered the terrified captain to cut the mooring lines and go to full reverse thrust immediately.
The massive ship slowly pulled away from the towering oil platform, churning heavily through the violent ocean waves.
I stood on the rear deck of the freighter in the freezing rain, watching the massive oil rig slowly fade into the darkness.
I looked down at the small metal detonator securely clutched in my hand.
I waited until the freighter was completely out of the blast radius.
I thought about the years of agonizing pain Grace had suffered.
I thought about the beautiful green eyes of the daughter I almost never knew.
I calmly lifted my thumb completely off the red button.
I tossed the metal detonator casually into the freezing ocean.
Exactly three seconds later, a blinding flash of pure white light illuminated the entire horizon.
The massive oil rig vaporized instantly in a deafening, apocalyptic roar of fire and tearing steel.

The shockwave hit our freighter moments later, rattling the windows of the bridge.
My father's blood-soaked empire was permanently reduced to burning ash sinking into the bottom of the sea.
