Chapter 4 - The Bloody Watch

Uncle Robert stared at his phone screen, desperately trying to find a signal.
"She is telling the truth, there is absolutely no network connection," Robert panicked.
Emily tossed the plastic bag containing Evan's bloody watch directly at my feet.
The plastic crinkled loudly against the hardwood floor, echoing in the silent room.
"I kept it as a souvenir to remind myself how easily problems can be solved," Emily bragged.
I stared down at the watch, remembering the moment I had placed it on Evan's wrist.
A fierce, burning rage completely replaced the crushing grief in my heart.
"You are a monster, Emily," I whispered, holding Lily tightly to my chest.
"I am a survivor, Claire, and I am the only one walking out of this house tonight," Emily replied.
Grandma Margaret crossed her arms, looking at her granddaughter with absolute disgust.
"You cannot possibly think you can murder all of us and get away with it," Margaret stated firmly.
Emily laughed loudly, tossing her expensive hair over her shoulder.
"I am not going to murder anyone, Grandma," Emily said sweetly.
"I just needed all of you in one room so my fixers could handle the cleanup," she explained.
Heavy footsteps suddenly sounded on the wooden porch outside the front door.
Two massive men wearing black tactical gear and ski masks smashed the front windows with heavy metal batons.
Glass shattered everywhere as the freezing wind howled into the beautiful Denver home.
The men unlocked the door from the inside and stepped into the foyer.
One of them was holding a suppressed pistol directly at Grandma Margaret's chest.
"Nobody makes a sound, or the old lady dies first," the armed man growled.
Patricia screamed and crawled under the heavy oak dining table.
Denise stood completely frozen, realizing the daughter she tried to protect had betrayed her too.
"Emily, what are you doing?" Denise cried out in horror.
"I am tying up loose ends, Aunt Denise," Emily sneered at my mother.
"You and my mother are going to take the fall for Evan's murder," Emily revealed.
"I planted all the financial evidence on your computers this morning while you were cooking the turkey," she added.
The armed men pulled heavy zip-ties from their tactical vests and began binding Robert's hands.
"Take the baby from her," Emily ordered the second man, pointing directly at me.
I backed into the hallway, my maternal instincts screaming at me to fight.
"Do not touch my daughter!" I roared, grabbing a heavy brass candlestick from a side table.

The man lunged at me, his massive hands reaching for Lily's blanket.
Suddenly, the blaring sound of police sirens completely surrounded the house.
