Chapter 16 - The Interpol Raid

The deafening sound of shattering glass completely overpowered Evan's panicked scream.
Heavily armed Interpol tactical teams violently breached the glass walls of the boardroom from the adjoining offices.
Dozens of red laser sights instantly locked onto Evan's chest, head, and shoulders.
"Drop the weapon and get on the ground immediately!" the lead Interpol commander roared through a megaphone.
Evan froze in absolute terror, looking frantically around the completely surrounded boardroom.
His brilliant, flawless master plan had entirely crumbled to dust in a matter of seconds.
He slowly lowered the suppressed pistol, realizing that pulling the trigger would result in his immediate and violent death.
He dropped the gun onto the polished table and slowly raised his hands in the air.
Two massive tactical agents aggressively tackled him to the floor, slamming his face hard against the expensive marble tile.
Heavy steel handcuffs clicked permanently into place around his wrists as they read him his international rights.
I stood up from the table, completely ignoring the chaotic shouting of the federal agents securing the room.
I walked slowly around the table and looked deeply down at the man I had once sworn to love forever.
His expensive Italian suit was completely ruined, covered in broken glass and dust from the tactical breach.
"You thought you were the smartest person in the world, Evan," I whispered down to him.
"But you completely forgot that I am a Whitmore, and we absolutely destroy anyone who threatens our family," I stated coldly.
Evan glared up at me with pure, undiluted hatred, thrashing violently against the heavy grip of the federal agents.
"You stole my money!" Evan screamed like a petulant, completely unhinged child.
"It was never your money. It belongs to Lily now, and you will never see her face again," I promised him.
The agents roughly dragged him out of the boardroom, his desperate screaming echoing down the long, marble hallway.
Richard and Clara quickly gathered the fake transfer documents and placed them safely back into the leather briefcase.
Grandma Margaret walked over to me and gently smoothed my hair, her eyes shining with immense pride.
"You did perfectly, Claire. He is entirely finished," Margaret smiled warmly.

I let out a long, deeply exhausted breath, feeling the final, heavy weight of the nightmare completely lift off my shoulders.
We walked out of the shattered bank and stepped back into the freezing, beautiful Swiss air, entirely victorious.
