Chapter 19 - The Last Loose End

The morning after the highly successful charity gala, I sat in my penthouse office reviewing the massive influx of donations.
The secure red telephone on my mahogany desk suddenly began to ring, signaling an urgent call from my private intelligence team.
I picked up the receiver, expecting a routine security update on the estate's perimeter defenses.
"Ms. Whitmore, we have a highly critical situation regarding the federal penitentiary," the head of security reported grimly.
My heart skipped a beat, but I maintained my completely stoic, professional composure.
"Tell me exactly what happened," I commanded, spinning my leather chair to look out at the Boston skyline.
The security chief informed me that a massive, highly coordinated prison riot had broken out in Emily's cell block overnight.
Several dangerous inmates had briefly breached the outer security doors before the riot police aggressively locked down the facility.
In the chaotic aftermath, the prison guards discovered that Emily had suffered a severe, highly targeted assault.
She was currently in the prison infirmary, completely stabilized but suffering from massive internal injuries.
"Did she provoke the attack?" I asked, knowing my cousin's arrogant, deeply toxic personality.
"No, ma'am. We intercepted a smuggled cell phone communication from the prison block," the chief explained.
"Evan used his remaining hidden cash reserves to secretly hire a gang inside the prison to silence Emily permanently," he revealed.
Even from behind maximum-security bars, Evan was desperately trying to tie up the final loose ends of his destroyed empire.
He was completely terrified that Emily would testify against him in a future civil suit, completely exposing his remaining hidden assets.
I felt a sudden, aggressive surge of cold determination wash entirely over my body.
Evan genuinely thought he could still play his violent, manipulative games while rotting in a federal cage.
"Contact the prison warden immediately," I ordered the security chief with absolute authority.
"Tell him I am personally funding a brand new, highly secure solitary confinement wing for his facility," I stated coldly.

"But the absolute condition of my massive donation is that Evan Davis is placed in the deepest, darkest cell they have."
I hung up the phone, absolutely determined to cut off the head of the snake once and for all.
