Chapter 3 - The Midnight Siege

The shockwave of the explosion sent shattered glass flying across the luxurious room like deadly shrapnel.
Dominic moved faster than Hannah could even comprehend.
He threw his body over hers, pinning her to the floor as debris rained down on his tailored suit.
The deafening sound of automatic gunfire erupted from the front lawn of the estate.
Hannah screamed in terror as the beautiful mansion turned into a chaotic war zone.
Dominic grabbed her by the arm and yanked her to her feet.
He ordered her to grab the girls and not look back.
Hannah scrambled toward the sofa, her maternal instincts completely overriding her paralyzing fear.
She scooped Emma into her arms while Lily and Grace clung desperately to her legs.
Dominic pulled a heavy, black pistol from a hidden holster inside his jacket.
He fired three rapid shots toward the shattered window, dropping an attacker who was trying to climb inside.
He pushed Hannah and the triplets down a narrow, hidden hallway behind the grand staircase.
The walls shook violently as another explosion rocked the opposite side of the massive house.
Hannah carried the heavy toddler while dragging the other two girls, her lungs burning with exertion.
They reached a reinforced steel door at the end of the dark corridor.
Dominic quickly punched a complex code into the biometric keypad.
The heavy door hissed open, revealing a concrete underground bunker lined with monitors and weapons.
He shoved them inside and locked the door, plunging the room into an eerie, silent safety.
Hannah collapsed onto the cold floor, pulling all three trembling children tightly against her chest.
The girls were not making a single sound, but tears streamed continuously down their identical faces.
Dominic walked over to the bank of security monitors, his jaw clenched in pure rage.
Hannah asked him through her tears who was trying to kill them.
Dominic stared at the screens, watching heavily armed mercenaries systematically clearing his mansion.
He told her that these men belonged to the Moretti family, his oldest and most lethal rivals.
Hannah was completely confused, asking why a rival mafia family would attack him on a random Wednesday.
Dominic tapped a few keys on the console to zoom in on the tactical leader’s face.
The leader was holding a digital tablet with a glowing photograph displayed on the screen.
Dominic’s blood ran completely cold as he realized what he was looking at.
He slowly turned around to face Hannah, the gun still gripped tightly in his hand.

He told her that they were not here to assassinate him.
The glowing picture on the mercenary’s tablet was a surveillance photo of Hannah.
