Chapter 21 - The Uninvited Guest

The Hamptons estate was glowing under the warm string lights of their intimate engagement celebration.

Hannah stood on the edge of the sprawling stone patio, wearing a simple but breathtaking white silk dress that caught the ocean breeze.

For the first time in her life, she felt completely untethered from the lingering shadows of her traumatic past.

Dominic was across the lawn, laughing effortlessly as he chased Lily, Grace, and Emma through the manicured hedges.

His dark, tailored suit jacket was already discarded on a lawn chair, his sleeves rolled up to reveal the faint scars of his violent history.

But the peace of the evening was abruptly shattered by the sound of heavy tires crunching against the gravel driveway.

Four sleek, black town cars pulled up to the main entrance, completely bypassing the estate's outer security checkpoint.

Dominic immediately stopped running, his relaxed posture instantly transforming back into the rigid stance of a dangerous apex predator.

He signaled his men with a subtle flick of his wrist, and a dozen heavily armed guards stepped out of the shadows.

The door of the lead vehicle slowly opened, and an elegant, elderly woman stepped out into the humid night air.

She wore a pristine silver pantsuit, leaning on a polished ebony cane with an air of absolute, terrifying authority.

It was Eleanor Sterling, the wealthy matriarch of the family that Dominic’s late wife had belonged to.

Hannah felt a cold knot form in her stomach as she instinctively moved closer to the girls, shielding them behind her flowing dress.

Eleanor did not look at Dominic; her piercing ice-blue eyes were locked entirely on Hannah and the three terrified toddlers.

Dominic stepped directly into Eleanor’s path, his voice low and vibrating with a lethal, unspoken warning.

He demanded to know how she had bypassed his security and what she was doing on his private property.

Eleanor offered a thin, completely humorless smile, waving a dismissive hand at the armed guards surrounding her.

She stated that she had simply purchased the security firm that Dominic employed, making his men officially her employees.

She walked past Dominic as if he did not exist, stopping just a few feet away from where Hannah stood trembling.

Eleanor leaned forward, the scent of expensive perfume and metallic coldness washing over Hannah's face.

She whispered that Dominic might have burned the medical records, but she knew the triplets did not have a single drop of Sterling blood.

Eleanor promised Hannah that she was going to take the children, not out of love, but to erase the insult to her family’s legacy.
