Chapter 9 - The Final Trap

The explosive sound of shattering glass heavily distracted the lethal gunman for just a fraction of a second.

That incredibly brief moment of hesitation was absolutely all Agent Vance needed to spring violently into action.

Despite his severe injuries, the tough federal agent tackled the Russian leader aggressively to the floor.

The automatic rifle discharged wildly into the ceiling, raining sharp plaster and thick dust down upon us.

Julian screamed in terror and cowardly crawled deeply under the heavy oak bed frame to hide.

Chloe frantically grabbed her crying baby from the velvet armchair and bolted entirely out of the bedroom in absolute panic.

I rushed forward immediately to assist Agent Vance, who was violently struggling with the much larger man on the rug.

The thug easily managed to throw Vance off and scrambled desperately to retrieve his fallen, lethal weapon.

I quickly grabbed the heavy brass lamp that Chloe had used earlier and swung it with all my remaining strength.

The solid metal base connected perfectly and brutally with the back of the dangerous intruder's skull.

He collapsed instantly, out completely cold before his large body even hit the floral rug.

I stood silently over him, my chest heaving heavily as I gasped desperately for fresh air.

Agent Vance weakly pulled himself up using the soft edge of the old mattress.

"Good swing," he muttered softly, offering me a highly pained but genuine smile of approval.

Suddenly, the piercing wail of multiple police sirens echoed incredibly loudly from the dark street outside.

Bright red and blue emergency lights flashed brilliantly through the newly shattered bedroom window.

My desperate, calculated act of breaking the glass had successfully triggered the perimeter glass-break sensors of the professional security system.

Julian slowly crawled out from under the dusty bed, looking utterly disheveled and incredibly pathetic.

"Thank god, the police are finally here to save me from you crazy people," he whimpered loudly.

I looked down intensely at the man who had abandoned me and his dying mother for three years.

"They are definitely not here to save you, Julian," I told him coldly.

"They are here to arrest you permanently for international money laundering and massive federal fraud."

Julian's eyes widened in sheer horror as heavy, tactical footsteps stomped violently up the wooden staircase.

A dozen heavily armed SWAT officers immediately stormed into the bedroom, aiming their bright laser sights directly at Julian.

"Julian Vance, you are completely under arrest," the commanding officer shouted aggressively.

Julian dropped heavily to his knees and raised his shaking hands, fully and finally defeated.

But as a heavily armored officer aggressively cuffed him, Julian slowly turned his head and smiled menacingly at me.
