Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Price

The quiet bedroom erupted into absolute chaos the moment the shocking words left my mouth.

Julian shrieked in genuine terror as the three armed intruders slowly turned their murderous gaze toward him.

"She is lying," Julian screamed frantically, backing himself into the corner of the room.

"My mother would never put a literal bounty on my head."

I stood safely near the door frame, watching his pathetic display of cowardice with total detachment.

"She loved you unconditionally until the day she found out you were stealing from a cartel," I corrected him coldly.

"She knew they would eventually come for her, so she created the ultimate insurance policy to protect this family."

"If the syndicate wants their missing money back, they have to kill you to get the massive payout."

The lead Russian thug carefully reviewed the dense legal documents inside the folder once more.

He nodded slowly, confirming that the corporate policies were indeed legitimate and fully active.

"Well, Julian, it seems your late mother was a very practical businesswoman," the thug remarked coldly.

Julian dropped heavily to his knees, clasping his trembling hands together in a desperate, pathetic prayer.

"Please, I can get you the cash," Julian sobbed hysterically.

"Just give me forty-eight hours to contact my wealthy offshore investors."

Chloe watched the man she had destroyed my marriage for grovel like a frightened child on the floor.

A look of absolute, soul-crushing disgust washed over her tear-stained face.

She gently placed the crying baby into a plush velvet armchair in the corner of the room to ensure he was safe.

Then, she slowly walked over to the wooden nightstand right beside the bed.

Before anyone could even attempt to stop her, Chloe picked up a heavy, solid brass lamp.

She swung it with all her furious might, smashing it directly into the side of Julian's head.

Julian collapsed violently onto the hardwood floor, instantly knocked unconscious by the brutal blow.

The heavily armed thugs stared at Chloe in genuine, unfiltered surprise.

"I am utterly tired of listening to him whine," Chloe stated coldly, dropping the broken lamp onto the rug.

She turned to face the lead intruder, her posture completely rigid and defiant.

"Kill him, take the damn insurance money, and let me and my baby walk out of here alive," she offered ruthlessly.

The thug laughed deeply, highly entertained by the sudden and ruthless romantic betrayal.

He raised his heavy automatic rifle and aimed it squarely at the unconscious Julian's chest.

But just before he could pull the trigger, the entire house suddenly plunged into pitch blackness.

The main power grid had been completely and intentionally severed from the outside.
