Chapter 7 - The Enemy of My Enemy

The warehouse erupted into absolute chaos as the ruthless mercenaries opened fire on everything that moved.
David grabbed my arm and violently pulled me behind a massive steel shipping container for hard cover.
Grant screamed in pure terror, completely abandoning Sabrina and sprinting desperately toward a narrow stairwell.
Sabrina dropped to the concrete floor, curling into a tight ball as heavy bullets sparked against the walls around her.
I realized with absolute certainty that if Grant escaped with the flash drive, I would be paying his debts for the rest of my life.
I ignored my own terrifying fear and aggressively sprinted after Grant, dodging the deafening crossfire.
David provided heavy covering fire, pinning down two advancing mercenaries so I could cross the open floor.
I reached the bottom of the metal stairwell just as Grant reached the second-floor landing above me.
I sprinted up the stairs, my lungs burning wildly as adrenaline completely flooded my entire system.
Grant fumbled desperately with the locked roof access door, his expensive suit now covered in dirt and sweat.
I aggressively tackled him from behind, sending both of us crashing violently onto the hard steel grating.
The remote detonator slipped from his hand and fell through the metal grate, shattering on the concrete below without triggering the explosives.
Grant roared in fierce anger and violently struck me across the face with the back of his heavy hand.
The bitter taste of warm copper filled my mouth, but I fiercely refused to let him win this war.
I kicked his knee with every ounce of strength I possessed, hearing a highly satisfying popping sound.
Grant collapsed in sheer agony, dropping the silver flash drive directly onto the metal floor.
I quickly snatched the drive and aimed Grant’s dropped pistol directly at his bleeding face.

Before I could say a single word, the heavy roof door burst open behind us.
The lead mercenary stepped onto the landing, aiming a massive shotgun entirely at my unprotected back.
