Chapter 13 - The Trojan Horse

Armed with the name of Vargas's corporate front, David and I completely transformed my home office into a highly secure, digital war room.
The company Grant had named was called Obsidian Holdings, a massive, highly respected commercial development firm that was currently constructing a billion-dollar skyscraper in the center of the financial district.
I used every single piece of advanced hacking software I had written over the last decade to quietly probe Obsidian Holdings' external servers. I discovered that their financial architecture was entirely flawless, completely protected by military-grade firewalls. They were laundering hundreds of millions of dollars right in front of the federal government, completely undetected.
But as a master architect, I knew that numbers could be easily faked on a computer screen. Concrete, steel, and physical space, however, could never lie.
I hacked into the city's municipal zoning database and downloaded the highly classified, sealed structural blueprints for the Obsidian skyscraper currently under construction.
I spread the massive digital blueprints across my smart TV and meticulously analyzed the structural load distribution, the elevator shafts, and the electrical grids. After six hours of intense, exhausting analysis, I found the fatal flaw.
I called David over and pointed directly to the forty-second floor of the skyscraper. According to the public records and the permits filed with the city, the building only had forty-one floors.
But the architectural schematics clearly showed a massive, heavily reinforced, windowless "maintenance void" hidden entirely between the fortieth and the penthouse levels. It was a completely secret, unlisted floor entirely missing from the public registry.
David’s eyes widened in profound realization. Vargas wasn't just laundering money electronically; he was physically storing hundreds of millions of dollars in untraceable cartel cash, illegal bearer bonds, and encrypted servers in a fortress floating hundreds of feet above the city streets.
If we could expose that hidden floor to the federal authorities, Vargas’s entire operation would be instantly raided, the cartel’s money would be seized, and Vargas would be hunted down by his own ruthless bosses for losing their fortune.
However, downloading the encrypted server data required a physical, hardwired connection. Someone had to manually plug a decryption drive directly into the hidden floor's mainframe.

I looked at David, my heart pounding with adrenaline and pure determination. I told him we were going to break into a billion-dollar cartel fortress, steal their most guarded secrets, and completely destroy Alejandro Vargas from the inside out.
David smiled, a dangerous, thrilling smirk crossing his handsome face. He walked over to his heavy tactical duffel bag, pulling out two suppressed firearms, heavy grappling wires, and advanced lock-picking gear. We had less than forty-eight hours left on the cartel's ultimatum, and we were about to go on the offensive.
