Chapter 5 - The Double Agent

I stared at the blood-stained note in pure horror as the cold wind howled through the broken window.

David quickly snatched the note from the floor and shined his tactical flashlight onto the frantic handwriting.

The note was desperately written by Sabrina, claiming she had been ambushed by the cartel enforcers on the main highway.

She claimed she had successfully hidden the silver flash drive in a secure locker before they captured her.

The note demanded that David bring the black binder to an abandoned warehouse downtown to trade for her life.

David’s jaw clenched so tightly I thought his teeth would shatter under the immense pressure.

He coldly stated that his wife was a pathological liar and this was undoubtedly an elaborate trap.

I argued that we had no other choice if we wanted to find the flash drive and save my innocent employees.

We quietly slipped out through the back terrace, using the dense, dark woods for cover from the armed men out front.

We reached David’s armored SUV hidden on a dirt access road and quickly sped away toward the city.

The drive was incredibly tense, the heavy rain pounding violently against the reinforced windshield.

I used my phone to hack into the GPS tracker I had secretly installed on Grant’s company car months ago.

To my absolute shock, Grant’s vehicle was not parked at the local police precinct where he had been taken.

The tracking dot was moving rapidly toward the exact same abandoned warehouse Sabrina had mentioned in her bloody note.

Grant had clearly paid off a corrupt officer to secure his immediate, undocumented release from custody.

We arrived at the warehouse just as a massive thunderstorm broke over the city skyline.

David drew his weapon and carefully kicked open the rusted side door of the decaying building.

We crept silently through the dark, damp corridors until we reached the main shipping floor.

Grant and Sabrina were standing together in the center of the room, completely unharmed and laughing loudly.

They were passionately kissing, celebrating how easily they had manipulated us into bringing the black binder directly to them.
