Chapter 3 - The Offshore Forgery

The sudden chaos allowed Sabrina to slip through the front doors and disappear into the rainy night.

The officers quickly wrestled Grant to the floor and secured the heavy handcuffs tightly around his wrists.

Grant screamed absolute profanities, cursing my name and violently thrashing against the cold limestone.

Before the police dragged him out, he looked at me with a terrifying, unhinged smirk.

He proudly shouted that arresting him would not save my precious development company from total destruction.

He laughed maniacally and confessed that he had recently secured a fifty-million-dollar offshore loan using my personal assets as collateral.

My heart completely stopped as the heavy wooden doors closed behind the struggling men.

David walked over to the dining table and flipped open his black binder to a specific tab.

He handed me a glossy, high-resolution copy of a massive loan agreement from a notorious shell bank in the Cayman Islands.

My signature was flawlessly replicated at the bottom of the legally binding document.

Grant had brilliantly forged my name to borrow millions of dollars from highly dangerous, unregulated international lenders.

David warned me that these particular lenders did not use lawyers to collect their debts, they used ruthless mercenaries.

If we did not find the original forged documents to prove the fraud, I would be held personally liable for the entire fifty million dollars.

My entire life's work, my reputation, and my physical safety were now in extreme, immediate jeopardy.

I desperately asked David why he was risking his own life to help a woman he barely knew.

David looked out at the black water of the lake, his expression hardening into pure, cold resolve.

He softly admitted that Grant had not only stolen his money, but he had also completely bankrupted David's aging parents.

We both realized that Sabrina had stolen the silver flash drive because it contained the encrypted offshore banking codes.

My cell phone suddenly vibrated violently against the smooth surface of the dining table.

I answered the unknown number and heard a chillingly calm, mechanically disguised voice on the other end.

The voice demanded that I wire the fifty million dollars by midnight, or my architectural firm would be burned to the ground with my employees inside.
