Chapter 16 - The Hostile Alliance

Omar stood completely relaxed in the center of the dark, shattered lobby, looking entirely untouched by the massive, chaotic war zone surrounding him.

Julian raised both of his suppressed pistols instantly, aiming the glowing laser sights directly at the center of the billionaire’s pristine white suit.

"I have spent fifteen agonizing years hunting you, Omar, and you just walked willingly into your own execution," Julian snarled, his finger tightening heavily on the triggers.

Omar did not flinch, completely ignoring the lethal weapons pointed directly at his heart.

He casually raised his right hand, displaying a small, highly sophisticated digital tablet glowing brightly in the darkness.

"If my heart stops beating for even a single, fleeting second, this tablet will instantly transmit a massive, highly illegal data dump directly to the FBI, the CIA, and Interpol," Omar explained smoothly.

"It contains irrefutable, completely fabricated evidence proving that Mara Hart personally engineered Project Genesis and orchestrated this entire terrorist attack."

The sheer, terrifying brilliance of his absolute blackmail completely froze the blood heavily in my veins.

If Julian pulled the trigger, I would instantly become the most heavily hunted, universally despised biological terrorist in global history.

My father’s hospital would be permanently seized by the government, and I would spend the rest of my miserable life in a dark, subterranean black site.

"Do not shoot him, Julian," I ordered quietly, stepping completely in front of the furious assassin to block his line of sight.

Julian lowered his weapons with a deeply frustrated, furious growl, completely realizing that Omar had flawlessly outmaneuvered our brute force.

"You are a coward who hides behind dead-man switches and digital ghosts," Julian spat viciously at the arrogant billionaire.

Omar laughed, a completely soulless, chilling sound that echoed harshly through the ruined lobby.

"I am a highly successful businessman, Julian, and I am officially offering you both a deeply generous, final transaction," Omar stated calmly.

He looked directly into my eyes, his dark gaze completely filled with absolute, unyielding greed.

"Hand over the vial of Project Genesis right now, Mara, and I will permanently delete the data dump and walk completely out of your life forever."

I reached slowly into the inner pocket of my blazer, my fingers heavily brushing against the freezing, metallic casing of the deadly vial.

I knew with absolute, terrifying certainty that if I handed him the weapon, he would absolutely use it to slaughter millions of innocent people for profit.

But if I refused, he would completely destroy my life, my freedom, and my father’s entire legacy in a matter of seconds.

I pulled the glowing, silver vial slowly from my pocket, holding it carefully up into the dim, ambient light of the lobby.

Omar’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated ecstasy as he finally laid eyes on the mythical, highly coveted biological prize.

He took a slow, eager step forward, completely extending his hand to claim his ultimate, terrifying victory.

I looked at the vial, and then I looked directly at Julian, deeply communicating an incredibly dangerous, silent plan with a single, fleeting glance.

I did not hand the fragile, glass vial to the eager billionaire.

I raised my arm aggressively high into the air and violently smashed the vial of Project Genesis directly onto the hard, marble floor.

The glass shattered with a sharp, deafening crack, instantly releasing a massive, hissing cloud of bright silver, highly concentrated neurotoxin directly into the air between us.
