Chapter 10 - The Last Laugh

The shadow stepped into the harsh lights of the helipad, revealing Julian, looking completely disheveled and frantic.

He had followed the federal agents to the hotel and sneaked up to the roof during the chaos.

Without saying a word, Julian rushed forward, snatched the crying baby from Sienna's arms, and backed away from her.

"You are going to prison for the rest of your life, Sienna," Julian spat, finally finding a shred of dignity.

Elias quickly secured Sienna's hands with a zip-tie and waved for the federal agents waiting in the stairwell.

The agents swarmed the roof, taking Sienna into custody and escorting a weeping Julian and the baby downstairs.

I stood near the edge of the roof, staring down into the dark abyss where the phone had fallen.

"My charity is completely gone," I whispered, feeling the weight of the night finally crushing my spirit.

Elias walked up behind me and placed a warm, comforting hand on my shoulder.

"You really think I would let her delete your life's work?" he smiled, pulling his own phone from his pocket.

He showed me a frozen screen displaying the completed bank transfer protocol.

"I rerouted the funds back into your original foundation account while she was running up the stairs," he explained.

Tears of absolute joy and relief streamed down my face, and I threw my arms around him in a tight embrace.

One year later, my foundation had successfully opened five new shelters across the state.

Julian and Marcus were serving twenty-year sentences in federal prison, completely stripped of their wealth and status.

Elias and I had started dating, building a quiet, deeply loving relationship built on actual trust and mutual respect.

I was sitting on the porch of my new beach house, sipping coffee and watching the morning sunrise over the ocean.

Life was incredibly peaceful, and the nightmare of my past marriage felt like a distant, fading shadow.

A courier van pulled up to my driveway and a delivery man handed me a small, beautifully wrapped silver box.

I smiled, assuming it was an anniversary gift from Elias, and carefully untied the silk ribbon.

Inside the box lay a tiny pair of baby shoes and a handwritten note on prison stationery.

The note read, "Did you really think the judge was my only protector out there, Clara?"

I turned the note over, and my blood instantly turned to ice.

"Check the baby's DNA again—he belongs to your new lawyer."
