Chapter 1 - THE VOICEMAILS

When the plane wheels touched down in Nassau, the cabin erupted in polite applause. I just stared at my phone screen as it reconnected to the cellular network.
64 Missed Calls. 112 Unread Text Messages.
I grabbed my carry-on, stepped off the plane into the humid, tropical air, and found a quiet corner near the baggage claim to listen to the voicemails.
The first voicemail was at 8:15 AM. It was Chloe. "Where are you?! The makeup artist is charging by the hour! Get your cheap boyfriend to drive you right now, or I swear to God, you're out of the bridal party!"
The second voicemail, at 9:30 AM, was frantic. "I found the note. Is this a joke? You cannot do this to me! The photographer needs the sister shots! And where is the $1,500 for the florist? They won't unload the vans until the final balance is paid! Call me back right now!"

By the tenth voicemail, at 11:00 AM, the panic had turned to unhinged rage. "You stole Mom's hairpin! You petty, jealous bitch! Carter's parents are arriving in an hour, and the florist just drove away with my centerpieces because your card wasn't on file! You ruined my wedding! You ruined my life!"
I didn't feel a shred of guilt. I felt a massive, heavy weight lift off my chest. I ordered a piña colada at the airport bar, blocked Chloe’s number, and hailed a cab to my resort.
