Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Hostage

Agent Miller forcefully shoved us down the long hallway toward the executive boardroom.
He kicked the heavy oak doors open and marched us into the massive room.
David was sitting at the head of the long mahogany table with a smug expression on his face.
The room was completely empty except for a small electronic fingerprint scanner resting on the table.
David thanked the corrupt federal agent and ordered us to sit in the leather chairs.
He looked at Lily, who was sleeping peacefully in my arms, and chuckled softly.
David slid the electronic scanner across the polished wood and demanded that I press my daughter's hand against it.
Michael tried to stand up and fight, but Agent Miller pressed the cold barrel of the gun against the back of his neck.
David announced that the liquidation papers were ready and the offshore accounts were waiting for the funds.
He promised to let us walk away unharmed if we simply cooperated with his demands.
I knew he was lying and would eliminate us the second the money transferred.
I slowly reached for the electronic scanner to buy us a few more precious seconds of time.
I prayed for a miracle as my trembling fingers touched the cold plastic device.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open with a deafening crash.
David dropped his expensive ink pen in sheer terror as he stared at the person walking into the room.
