Chapter 6 - The Great Escape

Richard yelled for us to run while he provided a desperate distraction.
He pulled a small flare gun from his coat and fired it directly into a stack of wooden pallets.
The dry wood instantly caught fire and created a massive wall of blinding smoke.
Michael carried Lily as we sprinted blindly through the maze of rusting metal containers.
Gunfire echoed loudly behind us as the mercenaries blindly shot into the thick fog.
We reached a chain-link fence at the back of the property and climbed over it with bleeding hands.
We tumbled down a steep embankment and landed in a shallow drainage ditch covered in mud.
I held my breath as the flashlight beams of the searching guards swept directly over our heads.
They eventually gave up the chase and returned to the burning shipping yard.
We had survived the night, but we were completely cut off from our home and our resources.
Michael sat in the dirt and stared at the dark sky in total defeat.
He whispered that David possessed all the power and we had absolutely nothing left.
I reached into my torn jacket and pulled out the thick envelope of documents.
I pointed to a small clause printed at the very bottom of the final page.

The clause stated that the fifty million dollar trust could only be liquidated with the biometric handprint of the youngest living heir.
David could not steal the money tomorrow morning unless he physically forced Lily to touch the electronic scanner.
