Chapter 10 - The True Mastermind

Diane screamed that if she could not have the Bennett fortune, then nobody would ever have it.

She pulled the hammer back on the heavy revolver with a trembling thumb.

I did not hesitate for a single second.

I grabbed the heavy envelope filled with the thick legal documents and hurled it violently directly at her face.

The heavy stack of papers struck Diane squarely in the eyes and blinded her for a fraction of a second.

The federal marshals lunged forward simultaneously and tackled her aggressively to the carpeted floor.

The gun fired harmlessly into the ceiling as they wrestled the weapon from her desperate grip.

Diane shrieked in absolute fury as she was dragged out of the building in heavy chains.

Richard placed a comforting hand on Michael's shoulder and told him how incredibly proud he was.

The massive fifty million dollar trust was immediately unfrozen and fully restored to Michael's legitimate name.

We reclaimed the Bennett Group and spent the next few weeks firing every corrupt executive involved in the conspiracy.

Two months later, we were living peacefully in a beautiful and highly secure mansion overlooking the ocean.

Lily was happy, completely safe, and taking her very first steps across the plush living room rug.

Michael and I were deeply in love, finally able to enjoy the beautiful life we had fought so hard to protect.

Our family was whole, and the dark shadows of the past were permanently erased from our minds.

I walked out to the front porch to check the mail on a bright and sunny Tuesday morning.

I found a small black box sitting on the welcome mat with absolutely no return address label attached.

I carefully opened the lid and found a glossy photograph of Lily sleeping peacefully in her new crib.

The terrifying picture had clearly been taken from inside our secure house just a few moments ago.

A small handwritten note attached to the back of the photograph read, "Diane was only an employee."
