Chapter 5 - The Ultimate Betrayal

The headlights of the approaching vehicles blinded us in the dark shipping yard.

Michael grabbed my hand and pulled me behind a massive steel container for cover.

Dozens of armed men stepped out of the vehicles with tactical weapons drawn.

A tall man in a tailored suit emerged from the lead car and walked casually toward our hiding spot.

Michael gasped loudly when he recognized the face of the ruthless leader.

It was David, his best friend and the chief financial officer of the Bennett Group.

David laughed into the cold night air and demanded that we hand over the documents.

He confessed that he had been manipulating the company accounts for the past ten years.

Diane had recruited him right out of college to help siphon the missing millions into offshore accounts.

David explained that tomorrow was the annual shareholder meeting where he planned to liquidate the entire corporation.

He needed the original trust documents to finalize the illegal transaction and vanish forever.

Michael yelled that he would never let his best friend destroy his father's legacy.

David smiled wickedly and raised a heavy handgun toward our direction.

He stated that friendship was just another business transaction that had finally expired.

David ordered his armed mercenaries to burn the entire shipping yard to the ground with us inside.
