Chapter 3 - The Ghost On The Phone

Michael moved with incredible speed and tackled the strange nurse to the linoleum floor.

The syringe clattered across the room and shattered against the baseboard.

I quickly scooped Lily into my arms and ran toward the emergency exit.

Michael subdued the attacker and sprinted out of the room right behind me.

We realized instantly that the hospital was entirely compromised and nowhere was safe.

We rushed to our car and drove aimlessly into the dark and rainy night.

Michael asked me how we could possibly figure out who Lily really belonged to.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out a cheap burner phone that had been inside the safety deposit box.

The anonymous source had left it there for emergencies.

I pushed the power button and waited for the screen to light up.

The phone immediately began to ring loudly in the quiet car.

I answered the call and put the device on speakerphone so Michael could hear.

A deep and raspy voice echoed through the small speaker.

The man told us to drive to an abandoned shipping yard on the edge of the city.

Michael demanded to know the identity of the person on the other end of the line.

The man sighed heavily and said he was the ghost that Diane had tried to murder thirty years ago.

He stated that his name was Richard Bennett.
