Chapter 8 - The Hostile Takeover

The boardroom fell completely silent at my demand.
The older men in their expensive suits exchanged nervous, uncomfortable glances.
"Sabrina, we understand you are angry, but appointing you as CEO requires a formal vetting process," one of the board members argued weakly.
I leaned forward, placing both of my hands firmly on the polished wood of the table.
"Your formal vetting process allowed Marcus to embezzle forty million dollars right under your noses," I reminded them sharply.
"It also allowed my husband to nearly sell our proprietary technology to a foreign competitor."
"I am the only person in this room who caught them, and I am the only person who knows how to fix the financial damage."
I pulled a detailed, fifty-page recovery manifesto from my bag and slid it across the table.
"I spent the last three hours with my private investigator drafting a complete restructuring plan," I explained.
"You can either vote me in right now, or I will take my family's majority shares and completely liquidate this company by tomorrow morning."
The chairman picked up the document, his eyes scanning the aggressive, brilliant financial strategies I had outlined.
He looked at the other board members and slowly nodded his head.
"All in favor of appointing Sabrina Rollins as the new Chief Executive Officer?" the chairman asked.
Every single hand in the room went up without a moment of hesitation.
I stood up straight, feeling the immense weight of the last five years finally lifting off my shoulders.
I had reclaimed my family's legacy and taken back the power Kenneth had stolen from me.
I spent the next three weeks working brutally long hours, completely purging the company of Marcus's loyalists.
I rebuilt the executive team from the ground up, hiring brilliant, fiercely loyal professionals.
Rollins Global Enterprises stabilized rapidly, and our stock prices actually began to soar.
Kenneth and Marcus were both denied bail and sat rotting in federal holding cells awaiting a massive fraud trial.
Maya finalized her divorce with Justin and accepted a plea deal for her minor role in the conspiracy.
I finally felt like my life was fully back under my own control.
One quiet Tuesday afternoon, I received a phone call from the lead fertility specialist at the medical clinic.
It was the same doctor who had taken bribes from Kenneth to ruin my chances of becoming a mother.
"Mrs. Rollins, please don't hang up," the doctor pleaded desperately.
"I am facing losing my medical license, but I need to tell you the truth about your treatments."
My blood boiled at the sound of his voice, but a morbid curiosity kept me on the line.
"You have exactly thirty seconds before I call my lawyers," I warned him coldly.
"Kenneth paid me to give you placebos, but I couldn't ethically destroy your fertility permanently," the doctor confessed quickly.
"I secretly harvested and froze twelve of your healthy eggs before the fake treatments began."
I stopped breathing, the phone slipping slightly in my trembling hand.
May you like
"They are perfectly viable, Sabrina," the doctor whispered.
"You can still have a child whenever you are ready."
