Chapter 19 - The Fall of the House of Vance

Federal tactical officers and state troopers stormed the warehouse seconds later, their weapons trained on the fallen mastermind.

Two officers pulled me gently back while four others secured Arthur Vance with heavy steel restraints.

Arthur coughed up blood, glaring at me with unadulterated venom as they hauled him to his feet. "You think you won, Sabrina?" he spat, his voice garbled through broken teeth. "My money is already in motion. You'll spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder."

"No, Arthur, you're the one who will spend the rest of your life looking at four concrete walls," a federal prosecutor said, stepping into the warehouse alongside Vincent.

The prosecutor held up the titanium briefcase. Julian Sterling had already cracked the combination under threat of federal treason charges.

"Inside this case are the direct payment transfers from foreign criminal syndicates, the wiretaps that ordered the assassination attempts on the highway, and the complete paper trail of Apex Horizon," the prosecutor stated coldly. "Mr. Vance, your parole is officially revoked. You are facing twenty federal counts of attempted murder, domestic terrorism, and racketeering. You are going to ADX Florence. You will never see the sun again."

Arthur’s arrogant smirk finally collapsed. A look of hollow, crushing defeat washed over his battered face as the agents dragged him out into the cold night.

I walked out of the warehouse into the open air.

Paramedics were treating Elena, who had only suffered minor abrasions. Justin was holding her tightly, both of them crying tears of overwhelming relief.

When Justin saw me, he ran over and wrapped his arms around me in a crushing embrace.

"You crazy, brilliant woman," Justin sobbed into my hair. "You saved us all."

Maya stood near an ambulance, wrapped in a thermal foil blanket. I walked over to her slowly.

"You didn't run," I said quietly.

Maya looked down at her shaking hands. "I owed you a debt, Sabrina. Kenneth took everything from you, and I helped him. Tonight was the only way I could ever look at myself in the mirror again."

"Your cooperation with the FBI will wipe your record clean," I told her, my voice softening. "Take that second chance, Maya. Go somewhere far away and build an honest life."

Maya nodded through tears, stepping into the ambulance.

The sun was just beginning to peek over the jagged peaks of the Rocky Mountains, painting the sky in glorious shades of amber and rose.

The nightmare that had haunted my family for fifteen years had finally been torn out by its roots.
