Chapter 12 - The Hidden Syndicate

The safehouse was a nondescript brick cottage nestled in the foothills near Golden, Colorado.

When I stepped inside, the living room was illuminated only by the cold blue glow of three laptops arranged on a wooden dining table. Justin was sitting on the sofa, his arm wrapped tightly around Elena, who was pale and visibly shaken.

"Everyone is safe," Vincent said, closing the front door and engaging three heavy security locks. "I swept the area twice. No trackers, no tails."

I walked over and hugged Justin and Elena. "I am so sorry you were dragged into this," I whispered to Elena.

"Just tell us what we’re dealing with, Sabrina," Elena said bravely, squeezing Justin's hand. "Justin told me about Arthur Vance. Is he really that dangerous?"

"Arthur Vance makes Kenneth look like an amateur," Vincent answered grimly, turning his laptop screen toward us. "I pulled the records from the state parole board ten minutes ago. Vance's early release wasn't approved through standard channels. A high-profile corporate litigation firm out of Chicago petitioned the board quietly, citing fabricated health issues and major philanthropic restitution."

"Who funded the petition?" I asked, leaning over the table.

"That's where it gets terrifying," Vincent replied, typing rapidly. "The legal fees and the restitution bond were paid through an offshore entity based in the Cayman Islands called Apex Horizon. When I peeled back the shell layers, I found three major institutional shareholders of Rollins Global Enterprises."

The room seemed to drop ten degrees. "There are traitors on my board," I said, my fists clenching until my nails bit into my palms.

"Not just traitors," Vincent corrected. "A coordinated syndicate. Arthur Vance orchestrated this entire network while sitting inside a prison cell. He used Kenneth and Marcus as the front line to drain Rollins Global of liquid cash. But the real endgame was always Apex Horizon buying up discounted corporate debt. Now that Kenneth and Marcus are locked up, Arthur is coming out to take direct control of that debt."

"If he controls our outstanding credit notes, he can force Rollins Global into technical default," Justin said, his financial background kicking in. "He wouldn't even need to win a board vote. He could seize our manufacturing plants and our intellectual property through a structured liquidation."

"And he’s doing it in less than two weeks," I said, remembering the letter.

"Sabrina, you can't fight this alone from an office," Justin said, standing up. "He sent a photo with a sniper scope. He wants us dead, not just bankrupt."

"He wants us terrified," I corrected, looking my brother dead in the eye. "He wants me running and hiding so he can take everything uncontested. But Kenneth is still sitting in a federal holding cell awaiting transfer to a permanent facility. And Kenneth knows where Arthur hid the digital keys to Apex Horizon."

"Kenneth hates you," Justin pointed out. "Why would he help you against his own father?"

"Because Kenneth failed," I said coldly. "And a man like Arthur Vance never forgives failure."
