Chapter 7 - The Final Standoff

Maya swung the heavy red fire extinguisher with all of her remaining strength.

It crashed directly into the back of Kenneth's head with a sickening, hollow thud.

Kenneth stumbled forward, dropping the silver handgun as he collapsed onto the metal stairs.

He rolled down the remaining steps and hit the wet tarmac completely unconscious.

Maya stood at the top of the stairs, breathing heavily and trembling uncontrollably.

"He tried to leave me behind," Maya cried, looking down at the man she had destroyed her marriage for.

"He told the pilot to lock the doors while I was still in the terminal."

Justin ran forward and kicked the fallen handgun far away from Kenneth's unconscious body.

He grabbed a set of zip ties from the trunk of his car and bound Kenneth's hands tightly behind his back.

I walked up to Maya, feeling a complicated mix of anger and profound relief.

"You saved my life," I told her quietly.

"I ruined my own life, Sabrina," Maya sobbed, burying her face in her hands.

"I deserve whatever happens to me now."

Police sirens began wailing in the distance, growing rapidly louder as multiple cruisers breached the airport gates.

Vincent, my private investigator, pulled up in a dark sedan just ahead of the police cars.

He jumped out of the car, waving a thick stack of printed legal documents in the air.

"The board received your email, Sabrina!" Vincent shouted excitedly.

"They immediately halted the transfer and contacted the FBI regarding Marcus's involvement."

"Marcus was arrested at the corporate headquarters less than ten minutes ago."

The police cars surrounded us, and several officers jumped out with their weapons drawn.

However, the lead detective stepped forward and ordered his men to stand down.

"Mrs. Rollins, we received a call from the FBI instructing us to secure this suspect," the detective said, pointing at Kenneth.

"The charges against you regarding the poisoning have been officially dropped."

I watched as the officers dragged Kenneth's limp body into the back of a police cruiser.

Maya surrendered quietly to the officers, accepting her arrest for her role in the conspiracy.

Justin wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into a comforting, protective embrace.

"It is finally over," Justin whispered, kissing the top of my head.

I looked at the massive private jet sitting uselessly on the tarmac.

"Not yet," I replied, feeling a new sense of fierce determination rising inside me.

"I have a company to save."

I turned away from the police cars and walked confidently back to Justin's sedan.

We drove straight to the Rollins Global Enterprises headquarters in the heart of downtown Denver.

I walked into the massive glass lobby, completely ignoring the shocked stares of the employees.

I stepped into the executive elevator and pressed the button for the top floor.

When the doors opened, the entire board of directors was waiting for me in the main conference room.

The chairman of the board stood up, looking incredibly pale and deeply ashamed.

"Sabrina, we owe you a profound apology," the chairman said nervously.

I didn't smile, and I didn't offer them any immediate forgiveness.

"You don't owe me an apology," I stated, dropping my leather bag onto the polished mahogany table.

"You owe me the position of Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately."
