Chapter 3 - The Fugitive Executive

The two police officers walked up the steps with their hands resting on their utility belts.
"Mrs. Rollins, we need you to come with us to the station for questioning regarding an intentional poisoning," the taller officer said.
I looked at Justin in absolute disbelief.
Kenneth and Maya were trying to frame me for a felony to discredit the evidence I possessed.
If I went to jail tonight, Marcus and his hired thug would have full access to my house and the stolen documents.
"I didn't poison anyone," I told the officers firmly.
"They used industrial glue by their own terrible mistake."
The officer pulled out a pair of handcuffs.
"You can explain that to the detective, ma'am," he said, stepping forward.
I took a step back, clutching my leather tote bag tightly against my side.
"Justin, you have to trust me right now," I whispered to my brother.
Before Justin could ask what I meant, I turned and sprinted through the dark living room toward the garage.
"Hey, stop right there!" the police officer shouted, running heavily behind me.
I slammed the garage door shut and locked the deadbolt just in time.
I jumped into my sports car, started the engine, and hit the garage door opener.
The tires squealed loudly on the concrete as I backed out of the driveway at top speed.
The police cruisers flashed their red and blue lights, but I was already accelerating down the winding neighborhood streets.
I knew the layout of Cherry Hills Village better than anyone else.
I killed my headlights and slipped into a narrow, hidden access road behind the local golf course.
I parked behind a thick row of pine trees and watched the police cars speed past my hiding spot.
My heart was pounding so hard it physically hurt my chest.
I pulled out my cell phone and dialed the private investigator who had originally gathered the cheating evidence for me.
"Vincent, I need a secure place to stay right now," I told him as soon as he answered.
"Meet me at the old warehouse district on 4th Street in twenty minutes," Vincent replied.
I drove carefully through the back roads, terrified of being pulled over.
When I arrived at the abandoned warehouse, Vincent was waiting for me by a rusted metal door.
He ushered me inside and locked three heavy deadbolts behind us.
"You are a wanted fugitive now, Sabrina," Vincent warned me.
I opened my bag and dumped the stolen corporate and medical files onto a dusty table.
"I don't care about the police," I said.
"I need you to look at these offshore accounts and tell me exactly how much Kenneth and Marcus have stolen from my family."
Vincent opened the first ledger and his eyes widened in absolute shock.
May you like
"Sabrina, they haven't just been stealing money," Vincent whispered.
"They have been actively funding a hostile takeover, and the final vote to remove your family from the board is scheduled for tomorrow morning."
