Chapter 20 - A New Dawn

The private helicopter landed exactly twelve hours later at a secured, private airfield in rural Canada.

Jax was waiting for me on the foggy tarmac, leaning casually against a heavily armored black SUV.

He smiled warmly as I stepped off the chopper, tossing me a fresh, encrypted satellite phone.

"The syndicate is entirely gone, and the FBI swept up the remaining domestic buyers," Jax confirmed quietly.

I nodded, feeling a profound sense of exhausting relief wash over my battered, bruised body.

We drove for three hours deep into the remote, beautiful wilderness of the northern pine forests.

We finally arrived at a small, incredibly cozy log cabin situated beside a crystal-clear, frozen lake.

There were no security fences, no armed guards, and absolutely no biometric scanners.

It was just a quiet, peaceful piece of the world completely untouched by war and greed.

I opened the heavy wooden door and stepped into the warm, fire-lit living room.

Lily was sitting comfortably on a soft rug, happily drawing pictures with a box of bright crayons.

She looked up, her beautiful eyes widening with pure joy as she saw me standing in the doorway.

"Mommy!" she yelled, dropping her crayons and sprinting across the wooden floor.

I dropped to my knees and caught her, hugging her so tightly that my wounded shoulder flared with sharp pain.

I completely ignored the pain, burying my face in her soft blonde hair and breathing in her sweet scent.

We were no longer running, hiding, or fighting for our fundamental right to simply exist.

The barcode on her neck had been chemically erased by Jax's medical team while I was away.

She was completely free, just a normal little girl with her whole, unwritten life ahead of her.

I looked out the large cabin window at the sun slowly rising over the beautiful, snowy mountains.

It cast a warm, golden glow across the peaceful, silent forest.

I had burned the entire world down to protect my daughter from the shadows.

Now, we were finally ready to step out into the light.
