Chapter 2 - The Breaking Point

I caught his wrist with my left hand before the blade could reach me.
I twisted his arm outward with a sharp, calculated motion.
Marcus screamed as the pressure on his joints became unbearable.
I slammed my right palm directly into his elbow.
A loud, sickening crack echoed across the silent lawn.
Marcus dropped the knife immediately as his arm bent at an unnatural angle.
He collapsed to the grass, sobbing and clutching his shattered limb.
I kicked the folding knife far into the street.
"I warned you," I said softly, looking down at him.
Warren's face twisted into a mask of pure rage.
"Get her!" Warren screamed at the four gym brothers.
The men hesitated, looking at their broken friend on the ground.
Then the biggest one charged at me with a roar.
I sidestepped his clumsy tackle and drove my knee into his ribs.
He folded in half, gasping desperately for air.
The second man tried to grab me from behind.
I threw my head back, smashing my skull into his nose.
He fell backward, blood pouring down his face.
The other two men decided it was best to stay exactly where they were.
I walked over to the picnic table and picked up my jacket.
I grabbed Lily's hand, feeling her small fingers trembling against mine.
"We are leaving," I told her gently.
Warren pulled a black cell phone from his pocket.
"You are not going anywhere," Warren growled, his thumb dialing a number.
"You just assaulted my son, and I am calling my security team to handle you."
I knew Warren's security team were actually mercenaries for his illicit businesses.
A loud screech of tires interrupted the quiet suburban afternoon.

Three black SUVs suddenly turned onto our street, moving dangerously fast.
They blocked the exit to the neighborhood completely.
