Chapter 9 - The Standoff

Marcus cursed loudly and threw the jammed rifle aside in absolute frustration.

He pulled out his silver combat knife once again.

He pressed the sharp edge aggressively against Sarah's throat.

He told David to drop the pistol right now or she would die immediately.

David felt a cold sweat breaking out rapidly on his forehead.

He knew he could not make a precision shot in the dark with his shaking hands.

Sirens began to wail in the distance, growing louder and more chaotic by the second.

Red and blue lights flashed brightly against the surrounding brick buildings.

The real police had finally arrived at the scene of the massive explosion.

Marcus sneered and proudly said the local cops would not save them.

He reminded them arrogantly that he owned the entire city police force.

A police helicopter suddenly crested over the rooftop, blinding them all with a massive spotlight.

A booming voice over a megaphone ordered everyone to drop their weapons immediately.

David slowly lowered his pistol, praying hoping the arriving officers were actually honest.

Two heavily armed SWAT officers breached the roof access door with weapons raised.

David shouted loudly that Marcus was the dangerous man they were looking for.

The SWAT officers did not aim their rifles at Marcus.

They aimed their glowing green laser sights directly at David and Sarah.

The lead officer barked a cold order to execute the fugitives.

David realized with absolute horror that Marcus had been telling the truth the entire time.
