Chapter 8 - The High Ground

Marcus kicked David viciously in the ribs, forcing him to stay down on the dirt.
He grabbed Sarah violently by her hair and pulled her to her feet.
He ordered her to walk toward the adjacent abandoned factory building.
He wanted to finish this execution where the street police could not easily see them.
David tried to get up but the sharp pain in his ribs was absolutely agonizing.
Leo was hiding safely behind a rusty metal dumpster, watching in pure horror.
David signaled silently for the brave boy to stay perfectly still.
Marcus forced Sarah up a rusty metal staircase leading up to the factory roof.
He wanted to make a brutal example out of her rebellion.
David finally managed to stand up, heavily favoring his injured right leg.
He found Sarah's discarded silver pistol resting on the damp ground.
He checked the magazine and saw there was only one single bullet left.
He limped quietly up the metal stairs, gripping the gun tightly in his good hand.
The cold night wind whipped fiercely across the flat gravel roof.
Marcus had pushed Sarah violently to the very edge of the building.
He held the rifle firmly to her back and demanded the ledger one last time.
David stepped out of the stairwell and aimed his pistol with shaking hands.
He shouted aggressively for Marcus to drop the weapon.
Marcus laughed coldly and turned around, using Sarah as a human shield.
He mocked David relentlessly for bringing a nearly empty gun to a rifle fight.
May you like
Marcus confidently squeezed the trigger of his heavy rifle.
The gun jammed with a loud and pathetic metallic click.
