Chapter 7 - The Desperate Ploy

David fell backward heavily onto the dusty concrete.
Blood began to soak quickly through the sleeve of his blue dress shirt.
Marcus stepped over him with a cruel and victorious grin.
Before he could finish David off, Sarah tackled Marcus hard from the blind side.
The two of them crashed violently into a tall stack of wooden pallets.
David grabbed his bleeding shoulder and groaned in intense pain.
He knew they still only had seconds left before the digital timer ran out.
He yelled for Leo to run toward the loading dock doors.
David forced himself up and stumbled clumsily after the boy.
Behind him, Sarah and Marcus were locked in a brutal struggle for the deadly knife.
Sarah managed to kick Marcus heavily right in the chest.
She scrambled away and ran desperately toward David and Leo.
The timer on the dropped detonator finally hit zero.
A massive explosion tore through the far end of the old warehouse.
The powerful shockwave blew David, Sarah, and Leo out of the loading dock doors.
They landed painfully in a large pile of damp cardboard boxes outside.
Thick black smoke billowed menacingly into the dark night sky.
Fierce orange flames began to rapidly consume the old warehouse.
David gasped for air and looked around frantically in the dark.
He saw Sarah and Leo coughing terribly but very much alive.
They truly thought they had finally defeated him.

Suddenly, a heavy combat boot stepped onto David's injured shoulder, pinning him firmly down.
Marcus emerged from the smoke, slightly charred but completely enraged, pointing a heavy assault rifle directly at Sarah's head.
