Chapter 5 - The Hunt

The silence in the warehouse was absolutely deafening.

Sarah frantically called out her son's name into the total darkness.

Her voice cracked with sheer panic.

David grabbed a heavy iron pipe from the floor to use as a makeshift weapon.

He told Sarah they needed to search the perimeter of the building together.

They moved slowly through the maze of towering wooden crates.

Every shifting shadow looked like a lethal threat.

David's heart pounded against his ribs with every single step.

He could not forgive himself if something terrible happened to the boy.

They reached the center of the massive warehouse.

A single industrial spotlight suddenly snapped on overhead.

The harsh white light illuminated a small metal folding chair.

Leo was sitting in the chair, completely unharmed but frozen in fear.

Sarah broke cover and sprinted desperately toward her son.

David tried to stop her but he was entirely too late.

A tall man stepped out of the shadows behind the chair.

He was wearing a perfectly tailored suit and a calm, terrifying smile.

It was Marcus.

He placed his heavy hand on Leo's small, trembling shoulder.

Sarah froze in her tracks and aimed her gun right at him.

Marcus chuckled softly and raised his other hand.

He was holding a digital detonator with a blinking red light.

He smiled and said he had wired the entire floor with military-grade plastic explosives.
